The Board Elections for the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter are coming up!
We are having our TACL Bay Area chapter Annual Meeting on Saturday, Nov 6 from noon - 2pm,
at the Taiwan Center in Fremont (4988 Paseo Padre Parkway, Fremont, CA 94555). Registration
will begin at 11:30 am. Starting at noon, we will have lunch, a slideshow highlighting our
programs and announcements of upcoming events, and officers' elections for new chapter board
positions. Everybody is invited, so please come! The more the merrier! Even if you've never
come out to one of our events, come out and see what we're all about. And for those of you who
want to get involved but don’t know what would be a good fit, come out and see what
opportunities await you!
As part of our annual meeting, we are also having our annual membership drive. Although it is
optional, we strongly encourage you to sign up to be a voting member of TACL and pay the annual
membership dues of $20 per person (free for students and board members). By paying the
membership dues of only $20/year, voting members will not only be eligible to vote in the
upcoming election, they will also be supporting and contributing to the administrative costs of
the organization and support the ongoing programs of TACL Bay Area. All membership dues will be
used to support future TACL events, programs and activities. Students must send an email to
TACLelections@yahoo.com from their student email account to be eligible for the waiver of
membership dues.
There are two ways to sign up to become a voting member: either by email or in person on the
day of the election/annual meeting. To sign up by email, email TACLelections@yahoo.com with the
following information separated by commas: last name, first name, email, phone, bday (optional).
Then mail membership dues of $20 (checks should be made out to TACL) to the following address:
Irene Chang, Treasurer
1102 Roxie Lane
Walnut Creek, CA 94597-1806
There is one deadline to keep in mind. October 31st will be the last day to let us know by email if you are a voting member and have special circumstances and cannot make it to vote in person on the day of the elections and would like to vote absentee. Absentee voters will only be able to vote for those nominees on the slate as of October 31, which will not include those who are nominated for positions on the day of the election.
October 31st is also the deadline to email us if you are interested in a certain position and would like your name included on the ballot. Nominations (self-nominations are okay) will still be open the day of the elections, as long as the nominee is present, but nominations made on the day of will not be reflected in the absentee ballot. To be a nominee for one of the six voting positions, you must be present on the day of the election and make a short informal speech about why you want to serve in this position. To serve in one of the non-voting positions, please contact VP Cin-Yee Shih at cinyee@gmail.com at any time.
We really encourage you to consider a board position. Not only do you save money on the annual membership dues (which no doubt appeals to the Taiwanese side of you), you will also have the unique opportunity to work with other talented, young Taiwanese Americans during an exciting time for our growing local chapter.
There are thirteen positions available for the next board. The six elected, voting board positions are President, VP External (Community Relations), VP Internal Affairs, Secretary, Treasurer, & Webmaster. The seven recruited, non-voting board positions are Student Liaison, APA Liaison, Under-secretary, Under-treasurer, Fundraising Coordinator, Membership Manager, and Social Chair.
TACL will hold the election for the six voting positions, and the non-voting positions will be filled by appointment by the new board. If you are interested in any position (whether voting or non-voting), please let us know by e-mailing TACLelections@yahoo.com by
October 31st, but we encourage you to become a candidate up to the day of elections. We also welcome any suggestions for new positions not mentioned. If you have any questions, feel free to ask our President Victoria Tseng at victoria.tseng@tacl.org , or our VP Cin-Yee Shih at cinyee@gmail.com .
